It’s nerve-wracking waiting for the birth of such a burning desire. The process is stressful … at times painful, but the sacrifice is not in vain. Last year, I decided to share with the world a piece of me that was once buried under fear, guilt and shame. I shared my story. I put my story on paper and turned it into a book. Never did I imagine that simply sharing my story would help so many people. Goodness! God has truly given his beauty for my ashes.
This year I decided to take it a step further and present my story on stage! I think it’s important for people to be able to see into the mind of a once lost, confused and insecure girl … and her escape to freedom. My goal is to draw people to a place where they can literally feel as though they have walked in my (and so many other survivors) shoes.
Sex-trafficking is an uncomfortable topic … but it’s a real thing. It’s funny, the first thing that comes to mind when a conversation on the topic arises is the movie Taken. What doesn’t come to mind is the girl in the high school locker room, the lady in line at the grocery store, the honor roll student, the neighbor or a friend. My goal … is to spread awareness, period. Many people don’t address the issue because they just don’t know where to start. A common misunderstanding is that the only way to help is by having experience. People often say, “I haven’t been through it so I wouldn’t be much help.” Not true! You can help by understanding what trafficking really looks like. Awareness can literally save and change lives. It matters.
The production is in fifty-one days!!! I’m excited!!! A portion of the proceeds will be donated to Rescue Houston.
